Do All Babies Need a Probiotic?

do-all-babies-need-a-probiotic

Short answer…it doesn’t hurt. Long answer…9 out of 10 American babies are born with too much bad bacteria. That’s the vast majority of babies, so most likely your baby would benefit greatly from a daily probiotic. That fact took me aback at first, but also made complete sense. How often do you hear about all of the allergies, asthma, and skin issues babies have? ALL THE TIME. And mine is included in that! Winnie started having issues at two weeks old. Two weeks! You think babies should still be these perfect, untouched humans, but the facts don’t lie. Most babies are born with a low functioning gut microbiome. They need help repopulating good bacteria.

Before you have a baby, you think everything will go according to this beautiful plan…starting with your birth plan, and then once your baby gets here, you realize that there need to be several amendments to your plan. Some additions. Some subtractions. And a lot of “I never should have said, ‘never will I ever.'”

*This post is sponsored by Evivo, but all opinions are my own*

Winnie is my third baby, and I’m still learning all of these things. Birth plan. Check. But everything following, not so much. If you’ve been following along with our journey, you know that feeding her has been the top issue since she was born. Second behind that is her eczema. Neither of my other girls have had issues with feeding or their skin, so this was all new. And I used to think, “never will I ever be one of those parents with a child who has issues as a baby…I do everything right!” I’ve been at a loss for the past six months on what to do for her, and feeling like a failure all along the way. At just over four months, I stopped nursing her all together, because her skin got so bad that she was bleeding and the spit up was uncontrollable. So, we began a journey of trying all the hypoallergenic formulas. If you’ve been here, you know it’s an exhausting journey. It’s all trial and error, and you just hope that something will make your baby feel better.

So, when Evivo reached out to me to partner with them to try their incredible probiotic, I jumped at the opportunity. I read the statistics, and I knew Winnie had symptoms of a low-functioning gut microbiome. So, this was something I wanted in on so I could tell you guys about it! I’ve had a lot of people reach out to me about their own babies spitting up and having terrible eczema, and feeling at a loss, so I wanted you guys to know that there’s something out there to possibly help some potential underlying problems.

So why Evivo over all the other probiotics on the market?

  1. It’s been researched for over a decade and has been in numerous clinical trials studying the importance of activated B. infantis (the strain of bacteria in Evivoin the gut.
  2. Strain matters. Evivo is the ONLY baby probiotic clinically proven to be 100% effective in restoring B. infantis to baby’s gut while reducing bad bacteria by 80%.
  3. The first six months are extremely critical for proper immune and metabolic development. If good bacteria is not repopulated, it could lead to Type 1 Diabetes and obesity late in life along with metabolic disorders now, and Evivo helps reduce the bad bacteria.
  4. Evivo works beautifully in tandem with breastmilk. More of the nutrients in your breastmilk will stay in your baby rather than be wasted in your baby’s diaper activatedIt’s the key to good gut health.

You may be thinking, “but wait, you’re not breastfeeding anymore, Kristina.” You’re right. It hasn’t been studied extensively with formula like it has been with breastmilk, and the results may not be the same. Formula wasn’t part of our plan. But it’s the path we chose to try and create a healthier, happier life for Winnie. And we’re still trying to find out what works for Winnie. Evivo seemed like a great choice for our next step, and we’re seeing how it works for her. We’ve mixed some with frozen breastmilk and some with formula. I’m excited, knowing that it’s such an amazing probiotic, and there’s nothing even comparable on the market. Evivo is the only probiotic clinically proven to repopulate baby’s gut with the good bacteria they are missing 100% every time.

And it’s so easy to use. You mix the powder with 3-5 oz of breastmilk in the dish provided, and feed it to your baby out of a syringe. An easy and healthy thing to add into your baby’s daily routine. And it’s delivered to your doorstep. It couldn’t be easier.

I wish I would have learned about it sooner. I would have tried this first over everything else. Having a healthy gut microbiome will just set your baby up for a healthier future in the short and long term. You never know what your baby will be like, but whether they’re symptomatic or not, establishing that healthy bacteria should be one of the first things you do. I encourage you to talk to your pediatrician about it, so that they can explain to you all the benefits of Evivo.
